Teen Summer Volunteering

teen volunteer

For teens who are entering grades 9 - 12 in the fall of 2024.  Sign up HERE!

We are looking for detail-oriented teen volunteers to help us get library users of all ages signed up for our Summer Reading challenge! Available shifts are open between June 15th and August 15th.  You can sign up for anywhere from an hour to several hours per day - feel free to create your own schedule and get text reminders before your shifts.

This is a great way to get started on service hours for school or clubs, AND help out your community!

Our teen summer volunteer schedule is all self-directed, so here are a few tips for success!

  • Make sure you will be available for all the shifts you sign up for!  This might seem like common sense, but we know that the summer can get busy and you don't want to realize too late you're scheduled during a time you'll be out of town.
  • If you can't make a shift you signed up for, be sure to cancel it via the link in the confirmation or reminder email.  This makes it so that someone else can sign up!
  • If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at the Youth Services desk by calling (503) 742-8623.  If you need to leave a message, make sure you give us your name and a good number to call you back.
  • When you arrive for your shift, just check in with us at the Youth Services desk and if you're new to the process, we'll get you acquainted with the task!
  • Wear comfortable, school appropriate clothes.  It can get a little chilly in the AC over the summer, so bring a sweatshirt just in case!
  • You are welcome to bring a book or class work if you have it, but we ask that you refrain from wearing headphones while staffing the kiosk.
  • Sometimes if we're all caught up with entering patron data, we'll ask you to help with other small tasks like stuffing packets or folding flyers.

 We appreciate your help!
